On the heels of The Other Art Fair London, I had the opportunity to visit Paris for pleasure rather than work for the first time in over 25 years – I made a B-line for Musée Picasso… I try to pay attention to why certain pieces attract my attention, in general I preferred the understated and the unusual – these were my favourite Picasso works on show… I love the simple, raw quality of this painting, the oxblood background painted […]

5 ABSTRACT ARTISTS at The Other Art Fair London October 2017, thoughts on why these are my personal favourite artists at this year’s London art fair… ANTOINE PUISAIS “the act of painting is always a sweet war between what you show and what you hide… I am interested in what resists.” Puisais engages with the aesthetics of the ruin, like many creatives he discovers and exposes the sublime in degradation. His works are large and highly polished, there is balance and a […]

…recently exhibited at The Other Art Fair London October 2017 Exhibiting in the chaotic and vibrant Shoreditch, London… What to say? There were positives and negatives to exhibiting this time around. On the up side, I met some extraordinary people, artists and visitors alike, including the wonderful Basil Beattie RA (thank you John Clare!), musing on the philosophy of art, as you do. I had some stand up arguments, notably with a fellow slav (you know who you are, wink) on the […]

LED is a series of five monochromatic section photographs I snapped back in June of the installation MUKI_PIX cobblestone system, created in 2012 by S39 Hybrid Design Manufacture. A series of cobblestones made from concrete & LED, mounted in a wooden box. MUKI_PIX featured in the National Salon 2017 exhibition ALL AROUND US, at the Mucscarnok-Kunsthalle, Budapest. Abstracted images of the original exhibit, LED captures, for me, the essence of the installation… light coming from an unexpected source, in a […]

The Anthony Shaw collection is currently on loan at York Art Gallery, and it’s well worth a visit. Occupying a relatively modest space on the upper floor, and curated with a mind for Shaw’s preferred domestic setting, the space is packed with great pieces – from ceramics to paintings, it’s a cornucopia for the senses. Shaw’s voice echoes through the space, explaining how as a collector of art, he selects pieces based on how he feels about a work, in contrast to […]

PERFECT STORM: COLLABORATION | MARTIN DAVIES & VESNA MILINKOVIC PERFECT STORM: LYRICAL | part I → The months leading up to December 2016 were some of the toughest I’ve experienced on a personal level, paralleling the emotions I had experienced when my father passed away in 1984 – my metaphorical car had careered off the cliff and I found myself free-falling into the abyss. As my plummet slowed, I came to a point of zero gravity, suspended like a rain drop in mid flow, […]
